Exotic Invaders: Pythons in the Everglades
In 2013, Explica Media started principal photography on a documentary film on the spread of pythons and other invasive species in the Florida Everglades. The invasives poster-child is the Burmese python, a ravenous snake that rivals the anaconda in size and appetite. In the places it has gained a foothold in the Everglades, native animal populations have crashed by as much as 98%. We are telling the story of the harmful animals destroying the Everglades ecosystem, and the hunters and scientists on the front lines of the battle to stop them. The videos in this channel are snapshots of our reporting as we delve deeper into the unnerving and unpredictable world of Florida’s python problem. We hope to complete the film by May of 2014.
